3 Steps to Help You Thrive In 2025

Issue #258 | January 23, 2025 | Todd Miller

One of my favorite teachers in high school was Mr. Ross, who taught history and social studies. I had him for Military History. One reason students liked him so much was that he always had extra credit questions on his tests. If you got a perfect score, including the extra credit, you’d get a 105 on the test. Mr. Ross’s favorite saying was “Come Alive with a 105!” And, believe me, that is what we all wanted to do!

As we’re all now wading our way through 2025, the phrase I keep thinking of is “How will you thrive in 2025?” For many home improvement and roofing companies, 2024 was lackluster, especially the last 3 – 4 months. Many contractors burned through their reserves, so they entered 2025 with their fuel gauges pointing to empty. So, how will you thrive in 2025?

Many homeowners who delayed starting or completing a home improvement project will begin moving forward. Many folks are already seeing an uptick in leads this year, including many good reports from winter home shows. But contractors are all a little hungry right now, so competition will be tight, and many folks will be willing to cut prices to snag a project.

As you work through 2025, I have three bits of advice to help you thrive and not fall prey to bottom-feeding competitors trying to drag you down.

Customer Experience
Customer Experience, defined as how someone feels about a company based on their interactions, is often the key to closing deals. Consumers are accustomed to buying based on referrals and reviews. However, if every interaction with them, starting with your initial marketing, is a pleasant experience, you write your own review as you go along. Do all your customer touchpoints make you stand out? If not, think through every step of your Customer Experience, create ways to enhance it, and make it something the prospect and customer truly enjoy and even begin to crave more.

In-Home Presentation
Your in-home presentation is, of course, integral to your Customer Experience. The good thing is that many of your competitors set a low bar in this area. Most focus on answering questions and getting to the price quickly. With a masterful presentation, your company will pull out the consumer’s needs and dreams, help them think logically and emotionally, and then present them with a value-laden solution worth more than your price tag. At Isaiah Industries, we can help you with your presentation. We have templated presentations that work if you’re selling metal roofing only or prefer presenting asphalt shingles as an alternative option.

Live By Your Numbers
A key to success is to know your numbers. Lead generation through to closing ratio. Job costing. Overhead. All of these are critical to maintaining a constant and fluid understanding so that you can price jobs correctly and sell the value of what your company offers. Without knowing your numbers, you will join your competition in a race to the bottom.

This is just an overview of three keys to help you thrive in 2025. I am always happy to dig into more details with you and share various tools that Isaiah Industries has developed over the years to support you in your efforts.
