Business Systemization and Profitability

Issue #11 | August 21, 2014 | Todd Miller

Systemization. It’s what allows McDonald’s and so many other world-class companies in all industries to consistently deliver the same results time and time again. In the case of McDonald’s, they are even able to do this despite huge employee turnover rates.

But, think about it. What does “consistently delivering the same results” mean to your company? Chances are it means delighting customers on job after job, and doing so in a way that is profitable for you and your organization.

If you study the home improvement industry, you will see that the true industry leaders – those who are consistently at the top of the Qualified Remodeler Top 500 List – do just this thing. They consistently create situations that delight their customers, all the while remaining profitable.

The way that they do that is by vigilantly building systems into all areas of their businesses which, when repeated for client after client, consistently make those clients happy. And happy clients create referral business, which is another real plus in today’s age of increasing advertising costs and lower rates of return.

The owners and managers of these businesses constantly analyze and evaluate the performance of all areas of their businesses. They look at company philosophy, corporate strategy, lead generation, sales, purchasing, and production as well as many other things. They determine what practices and procedures will lead to their desired end results, they document those practices and procedures, and they hold their team members accountable to them.

As far as other ways to systematize your business, I have worked with many contractors on this for many years and would be happy to work with you as well. We also have some other colleagues and associates who could help you in this area, specifically for residential metal roofing. Please email me at tmiller@isaiahindustries.com if you’re interested.
